Description

Delicious and flavorful Baked BBQ Chicken Drumsticks seasoned with a blend of garlic, onion, chili powder, smoked paprika, and ginger, then baked to perfection and coated with sugar-free BBQ sauce. A healthy and easy-to-make dish perfect for weeknight dinners or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Seasoning

  • 4 pounds Chicken drumsticks, about 12 pieces
  • 2 tablespoons Garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons Onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons Chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons Smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper

Sauce

  • 2 cups Sugar-free BBQ sauce, or low sugar BBQ sauce

Instructions

  1. Season the Chicken: In a mixing bowl, combine the chicken drumsticks with garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, smoked paprika, ground ginger, salt, and pepper. Use clean hands to generously rub the seasoning mixture all over the drumsticks, ensuring even coverage.
  2. Marinate: Refrigerate the seasoned drumsticks for at least 30 minutes. This rest time allows the flavors to penetrate the meat deeply.
  3. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a roasting pan with aluminum foil for easy cleanup. If available, place a wire rack inside the roasting pan to allow air circulation around the drumsticks.
  4. Arrange Drumsticks: Transfer the marinated drumsticks onto the wire rack in the roasting pan, spacing them evenly so they don’t touch. This helps in even cooking and crisping of the skin.
  5. First Bake: Bake the drumsticks in the middle of the oven for 40 to 50 minutes. Flip them halfway through the baking time to ensure they cook evenly on all sides.
  6. Glaze with BBQ Sauce: Remove the drumsticks from the oven and brush each piece generously with the sugar-free BBQ sauce.
  7. Final Bake: Return the drumsticks to the oven and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes. Flip the drumsticks, brush with more BBQ sauce, and bake for another 10 to 15 minutes to develop a nice glaze and caramelization.
  8. Serve: Remove from oven and serve immediately. Enjoy the tender, juicy drumsticks with a flavorful BBQ coating.

Notes

  • Use any favorite healthy or sugar-free BBQ sauce.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, and reheat in the microwave before serving.
