Main Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup tamari or low sodium soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
Additional Flavors:
- 1 1/2 teaspoons fresh ginger, minced
- 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon honey (or agave nectar for vegans)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 3 tablespoons mirin
- 1/4 cup water mixed with 3 teaspoons cornstarch
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a small saucepan, mix all ingredients. Bring to a boil, then simmer for about 4 minutes.
- Cool and Store: Remove from heat, let it cool, and then refrigerate. Makes about 1 1/4 cups of teriyaki sauce.
Notes
- Mirin is a sweet Japanese rice wine, substitute with sherry and a pinch of sugar if unavailable.
- If using as a marinade, omit cornstarch and ensure sauce is cooled before use.
