Description

Bloody Finger Hot Dogs are a spooky and fun Halloween treat that turns ordinary hot dogs into creepy severed fingers. Perfect for parties or a festive snack, these hot dogs are cleverly sliced to resemble knuckles and fingernails, then topped with ketchup to simulate blood. Add an optional onion piece for a realistic fingernail effect to really creep out your guests!

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 4 hot dogs
  • 4 hot dog buns
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • Water for boiling
  • Optional: Thinly sliced white onion pieces (for fingernails)

Instructions

  1. Boil Water: Start by bringing a large pot of water to a boil on the stovetop to prepare for cooking the hot dogs.
  2. Prepare Fingernails: Using a sharp knife, carefully slice the two sides of each hot dog near one end, then cut straight across the top. Create a slight curved slice at the bottom of this section to form the nail bed. Carefully slice the small fingernail piece off the top of the hot dog, adjusting size as desired for a realistic look.
  3. Create Knuckles: On the hot dog ‘finger,’ make a single slit along the middle lengthwise. Then make two crescent-shaped slits directly above and below this line to simulate knuckle joints. Halfway between the first knuckle and the fingernail, add two more crescent slits, and finally, add two crescent slits at the very bottom of the finger.
  4. Boil Hot Dogs: Place the prepared hot dogs into the boiling water and cook for 4-5 minutes until heated through and slightly softened to enhance the slit details.
  5. Assemble the Bloody Fingers: Remove the hot dogs from water and place each one into a hot dog bun. Generously smear ketchup on the bottom and top of each ‘finger’ and inside the bun to resemble blood and gore.
  6. Add Optional Fingernail: For added realism, place a thin square slice of white onion on the sliced-off fingernail area to simulate a nail, though this step is optional.
  7. Serve: Serve immediately as a fun and creepy Halloween snack or appetizer.

Notes

  • These Bloody Severed Finger Hot Dogs take “finger food” to an extreme, perfect for Halloween parties or before trick-or-treating.
  • Be careful when making slices to avoid cutting all the way through the hot dog.
  • The ketchup provides the “bloody” effect but can be substituted with barbecue sauce or other red condiments if desired.
  • Onion fingernails add realism but are optional and can be omitted for convenience.
