Description

These delicious Chocolate Chip Granola Bars are a perfect homemade snack, combining wholesome oats, whole wheat flour, and sweet chocolate chips in a chewy and satisfying bar. Easy to make with simple ingredients, they’re perfect for breakfast on the go, an afternoon energy boost, or a lunchbox treat. Customize with dried fruit if preferred, and enjoy a healthy, homemade alternative to store-bought granola bars.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 4 cups old fashioned oats
  • 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup shredded unsweetened coconut
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (or substitute with raisins or other dried fruit)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup vegetable, canola, avocado, or other oil of choice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C) to prepare for baking the granola bars.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the oats, whole wheat flour, shredded unsweetened coconut, brown sugar, chocolate chips, and kosher salt. Stir together to evenly distribute all dry components.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the oil of your choice, vanilla extract, and honey until smooth and well blended.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredient mixture over the dry oat mixture and stir thoroughly to ensure all the dry ingredients are well coated and the mixture is evenly combined.
  5. Shape Granola Bars: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Transfer the granola mixture onto the baking sheet and press firmly to shape into a rectangle approximately 13 x 9 inches and about 1 inch thick. Press firmly so the granola sticks together and holds its shape while baking.
  6. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 30 to 40 minutes, until the bars are golden and set.
  7. Cool and Cut: Remove from oven and allow the granola bars to cool completely on the baking sheet. Once cooled, cut into bars measuring about 3 x 1 inches each.

Notes

  • Storage: Individually wrapped, these bars stay fresh for several weeks at room temperature.
  • Freezing: Store bars in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 4 months. Thaw for about 20 minutes before eating.
  • Flour Substitutions: If you don’t have whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, gluten-free flour, or almond flour can be used instead.
  • Chocolate Chip Alternatives: Substitute with naturally sweet dried fruits such as cranberries, cherries, or raisins for a less sugary option.
