Description

Create a festive and delicious Christmas Donut Tree, perfect for holiday gatherings. This charming dessert features donut holes stacked on a styrofoam cone, decorated with fresh rosemary sprigs and pomegranate arils, then dusted with powdered sugar for a snowy effect. It’s a no-bake, easy-to-assemble centerpiece that brings sweetness and holiday cheer to your table.

Ingredients

Scale

Donut Tree Assembly

  • 80-90 Donut Holes (powdered sugar or sour cream flavor)
  • 90 Toothpicks
  • 1 12-inch Styrofoam Cone
  • Plastic Wrap (enough to wrap cone twice)

Decorations

  • Fresh Rosemary Sprigs (enough to fill gaps on the tree)
  • 1/4 Cup Pomegranate Arils
  • 1/2 Cup Powdered Sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cone: Wrap the 12-inch styrofoam cone with two layers of plastic wrap to protect it and make cleanup easier.
  2. Attach Donut Holes at Base: Stand the cone upright. Insert a toothpick halfway into the cone starting at the bottom. Gently push a donut hole onto the toothpick, ensuring it aligns with the base of the cone. Continue inserting toothpicks and donut holes around the base, spacing them to allow room for subsequent rows, and complete a full circle.
  3. Build Subsequent Rows: For each next row, position the donut holes in between the ones in the row below to fill gaps and create a dense, tree-like structure. Continue until the cone is completely covered with donut holes.
  4. Add Rosemary Sprigs: Trim short pieces of fresh rosemary and tuck them into gaps between the donut holes to mimic pine needles and add a festive green touch.
  5. Decorate with Pomegranate Arils: Sprinkle pomegranate arils evenly throughout the tree to add bright red berries resembling Christmas tree ornaments.
  6. Final Dusting: Lightly dust the entire donut tree with powdered sugar to create a snowy effect and enhance the festive look.

Notes

  • Use donut holes that are firm enough to stay on toothpicks without breaking apart.
  • If preferred, use differently flavored or decorated donut holes for added visual interest.
  • The styrofoam cone can be replaced with a handmade paper cone wrapped tightly with plastic wrap for a more eco-friendly option.
  • Assemble the tree just before serving to keep the donut holes fresh and prevent them from becoming soggy.
  • Use fresh rosemary for aroma and visual effect; pine or other herbs can be substituted if rosemary is not available.
  • To make it vegan or special-diet friendly, ensure the donut holes comply with those dietary restrictions.
