Ingredients
Scale
Fresh Ingredients
- 1 small piece of fresh ginger root (15 g, 1 tablespoon)
- 1 small piece of turmeric root (15 g, 1 tablespoon)
- 1 clove garlic
- 1/2 lemon, juice only (1 tablespoon lemon juice)
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 cup water
- Half tablespoon fresh thyme or dried (1/2 tablespoon dried or 1 tablespoon fresh)
- Half tablespoon fresh oregano or dried (1/2 tablespoon dried or 1 tablespoon fresh)
Dry Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Peel the ginger and turmeric roots and cut them into small pieces. Peel, mince or grate the garlic. Finely chop fresh oregano and thyme if using fresh herbs.
- Simmer Roots and Herbs: Place the ginger and turmeric pieces into a small saucepan and pour in 1 cup of water. Set the saucepan over high heat on the stove and bring the water to a boil. Once boiling, add the cinnamon stick and herbs (thyme and oregano). Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer gently for 10 minutes to extract flavors and beneficial compounds.
- Strain and Add Flavorings: Turn off the heat and strain the liquid to remove solid pieces. To the warm strained liquid, add apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, black pepper, and minced garlic. Stir well to combine all ingredients evenly.
- Steep and Cool: Allow the mixture to steep for 10 minutes to meld the flavors and benefits fully. Let it cool until it reaches approximately 50 degrees Celsius, which ensures the honey preserves its beneficial properties.
- Add Honey and Olive Oil: Stir in the raw honey until fully dissolved, then add one teaspoon of olive oil. Mix gently and drink this tonic warm to soothe symptoms and support your immune system.
Notes
- If using ground turmeric or ginger powder instead of fresh roots, add them together with the black pepper to the strained mixture.
- Save the leftover pulp from ginger and turmeric to brew another tea or freeze it in an ice cube tray for later use in soups or drinks.
