Description

These Garlic Butter Swim Biscuits are fluffy, buttery, and packed with garlic flavor. Perfectly baked in a baking dish with melted butter underneath, they come out golden brown and deliciously tender. The biscuits are topped with a savory garlic butter glaze infused with parsley and garlic powder for an extra burst of flavor. A fantastic homemade biscuit recipe for garlic lovers, ideal as a side or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Biscuits:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon aluminum-free baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk (you may need up to 2 cups)
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • ½ cup (1 stick) salted butter

For the Garlic Butter Topping:

  • ¼ cup salted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 450°F. Spray a 9×9 inch oven-safe glass or ceramic baking dish with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, aluminum-free baking powder, salt, and garlic powder. Stir to distribute evenly.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Pour in 1 ¾ cups buttermilk and the finely minced garlic to the dry mixture. Stir gently until a thick and sticky batter forms. If it feels too dry, add a little more buttermilk until the desired consistency is achieved.
  4. Melt Butter for Baking Dish: Melt the ½ cup salted butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Pour the melted butter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  5. Transfer Dough to Baking Dish: Pour the biscuit dough directly over the melted butter in the baking dish. The butter will partially run over the dough. Spray your hand lightly with nonstick spray to help spread the dough evenly in the pan.
  6. Pre-cut Dough: Using a knife, cut the dough into 9 squares lightly to facilitate easier cutting after baking.
  7. Bake: Place the dish on the middle oven rack and bake for 25-30 minutes. Rotate the dish halfway through baking for even browning. Biscuits should be golden brown and spring back to touch. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out clean.
  8. Prepare Garlic Butter Topping: While baking, mix the melted butter, dried parsley flakes, and garlic powder in a small bowl.
  9. Glaze Biscuits: As soon as the biscuits come out of the oven and are still warm, brush the garlic butter topping generously over the biscuit tops.
  10. Serve: Cut again along the pre-marked lines and serve warm. Enjoy your flavorful garlic butter biscuits!

Notes

  • Spraying the baking dish with nonstick cooking spray is optional but recommended for preventing sticking beyond the butter’s help.
  • Fresh garlic provides the best flavor impact. Reduce minced garlic to 2 cloves if you prefer milder garlic taste.
  • Jarred garlic can be used but fresh is highly preferred for maximum flavor.
  • Optional: Add cheese to the biscuit dough for a cheesy variation.
  • Store leftover biscuits in an airtight container or bag in the refrigerator for up to a few days.
  • Oven temperatures and hot spots vary; check biscuits early to avoid overbaking.
