Description

Graveyard Taco Cups are a spooky and fun Halloween-themed recipe featuring crispy pizza crust cutouts shaped like trees and tombstones, filled with warm refried black beans, creamy guacamole, and topped with black olives and green onions. Perfect for a festive party appetizer or a light meal with a playful twist.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Taco Cups

  • 2 FlatOut pizza crusts
  • Olive oil, for brushing
  • Sea salt, to taste

For the Filling

  • 1 can refried black beans
  • 2 avocados
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 8 black olives, chopped
  • Green onion, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the pizza crust cutouts.
  2. Create stencils: Draw a tree and tombstone shapes on paper and cut them out to use as stencils for shaping the pizza crusts. Alternatively, use Halloween-themed cookie cutters for tombstones.
  3. Cut out shapes: Place the stencils on the FlatOut pizza crusts and carefully cut out tree and tombstone shapes using a precision knife such as an Exact-O-Knife, ensuring safety especially with children.
  4. Prepare cutouts for baking: Lightly brush the cutouts with olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt for flavor. Arrange them on a baking sheet prepared for the oven.
  5. Bake the cutouts: Bake for 5-8 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned and crispy. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely.
  6. Decorate tombstones: Once cooled, use an edible pen to write “R.I.P.” on each tombstone cutout to enhance the graveyard theme.
  7. Heat the refried beans: Warm the can of refried black beans over medium-low heat on the stovetop until heated through, then remove from heat and set aside.
  8. Make the guacamole: In a bowl, combine the avocado flesh, minced garlic, lime juice, and sea salt. Mash together until smooth and creamy.
  9. Assemble the taco cups: Layer each cup beginning with a spoonful of warm refried beans, then add a layer of guacamole. Top with chopped black olives and chopped green onions for garnish.
  10. Serve and enjoy: Present the graveyard taco cups on a platter for a festive and delicious Halloween treat.

Notes

  • Use an edible food marker or pen to write on the tombstone cutouts for a safe and creative presentation.
  • Ensure FlatOut pizza crusts are firm enough to hold the toppings without becoming soggy.
  • Adjust the amount of garlic and lime juice in the guacamole to taste.
  • This recipe is a fun activity to do with kids but supervise cutting with knives.
  • For extra flavor, sprinkle a little smoked paprika or chili powder on the beans before heating.
  • Can be served as a light meal or festive appetizer for Halloween parties.
