Description

Honey Sesame Chicken is a delicious and quick dish featuring tender bite-sized chicken thighs fried to golden perfection and coated in a sweet and savory honey sesame sauce. The combination of honey, soy sauce, and sesame oil delivers a perfect balance of flavors, making it an ideal weeknight dinner that pairs beautifully with rice or steamed vegetables.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Chicken

  • 4-5 boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into 2” cubes
  • 2 tablespoons potato starch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Pinch of salt and pepper
  • 1/4 cup avocado oil for frying

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce

Garnish

  • Green onions
  • Cilantro
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: Combine honey, ketchup, sweet chili sauce, sesame oil, and soy sauce in a bowl and set aside.
  2. Season the chicken: Cut the chicken thighs into 2-inch cubes. Place in a bowl and season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat the chicken: Add potato starch to the seasoned chicken, cover with a lid, and shake well to evenly coat all pieces.
  4. Heat the oil: Heat ¼ cup of avocado oil in a skillet over medium-high heat for shallow frying.
  5. Fry the chicken: Fry the chicken in batches to avoid overcrowding the skillet. Cook until golden and cooked through, then remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. Reduce oil: Remove remaining oil from the skillet using a paper towel, leaving a thin layer for sautéing.
  7. Finish the dish: Return the fried chicken to the skillet, pour in the prepared sauce, and sauté together for 2-4 minutes, stirring frequently until the sauce thickens and caramelizes, coating the chicken evenly.
  8. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle chopped green onions, cilantro, and sesame seeds over the chicken before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Shallow frying in a skillet is essential to achieve a crispy exterior while keeping the chicken juicy.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan while frying to ensure even cooking and proper browning.
  • Adjust the sweetness or acidity of the sauce by adding more honey or ketchup according to your taste preferences.
  • Serve this dish with steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
