Description

This charming Snowman Cheeseball is a festive and creamy appetizer perfect for winter gatherings and holiday parties. Made with a blend of cream cheese, gouda, and flavorful additions like chives and sun-dried tomatoes, it is shaped into a snowman and decorated with mozzarella, cloves, raisins, pretzel arms, and a baby carrot nose. Easy to prepare and delightful to serve with crackers or veggies, it’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale

Cheese Mixture

  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 4 cups gouda cheese, shredded
  • ½ cup chives, chopped
  • ½ cup oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes, drained and chopped
  • ½ tsp garlic powder

Decorations

  • 1 ½ cups mozzarella cheese, finely shredded
  • 9 whole cloves (for eyes and mouth)
  • 4 raisins (for buttons)
  • 2 pretzel sticks (for arms)
  • 1 baby carrot (for nose)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cheese Mixture: Combine the softened cream cheese and shredded gouda cheese in a food processor and blend until creamy and well-combined. Transfer the cheese mixture into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add Flavorings: Stir in the chopped chives, chopped sun-dried tomatoes, and garlic powder evenly into the cheese mixture, making sure all flavors are incorporated.
  3. Shape the Snowman Body: Form the cheese mixture into two balls — one large and one smaller. Cover each ball thoroughly with finely shredded mozzarella cheese by pressing it onto the surface.
  4. Chill the Balls: Wrap both cheese balls in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow them to firm up properly.
  5. Assemble the Snowman: Carefully stack the smaller ball on top of the larger one, securing them with a toothpick or small dowel placed through the centers for stability.
  6. Create the Snowman’s Face: Slice the baby carrot lengthwise into halves and then slice one half again lengthwise to form a nose shape. Press this carrot piece into the smaller ball to make the nose. Use two whole cloves as eyes and insert about seven cloves in an arc to form the mouth.
  7. Add Buttons and Arms: Press four raisins sideways into the large ball to serve as buttons. Attach two pretzel sticks on each side for the snowman’s arms.
  8. Serve: Present your snowman cheeseball with sturdy crackers and fresh vegetables for dipping and spreading.

Notes

  • Allow the cream cheese to soften at room temperature before starting to make mixing easier.
  • If a food processor is not available, mix the ingredients thoroughly by hand using a wooden spoon.
  • The snowman can be prepared a day ahead and refrigerated to develop flavors and maintain firmness.
  • Use a toothpick gently when stacking to avoid breaking the cheese balls.
  • Choose sturdy crackers or fresh veggies to pair with the cheeseball so they hold up during serving.
