Ingredients
Scale
Dry Snack Mix
- 9 cups Chex cereal (a combination of rice, corn, and wheat Chex cereal)
- 1 cup mini pretzel twists
- 1 cup mini pretzel rods
- 1 cup mini bread sticks
- 2 cups mixed nuts (almonds, whole cashews, and pistachios)
- 1 cup Rye bagel chips (or plain bagel chips)
Sweet & Spicy Sauce for Seasoning
- ¾ cup butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- ½ cup honey
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 250°F (120°C) to gently toast the snack mix without burning.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, add all three types of Chex cereal, mini pretzel twists, mini pretzel rods, mini bread sticks, bagel chips, and mixed nuts. Mix them evenly.
- Prepare the seasoning sauce: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. To the melted butter, add Worcestershire sauce, honey, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, cayenne pepper, and chili powder. Whisk everything together until fully combined.
- Coat the snack mix: Pour the sweet and spicy seasoning sauce over the dry snack mixture. Use a spatula to thoroughly coat all ingredients ensuring an even coverage of the sauce.
- Spread on baking tray: Transfer the seasoned snack mix onto a large baking tray. Spread the mixture into one even layer to allow for uniform baking.
- Bake the mix: Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, stirring once or twice if desired, until the mixture becomes crisp and evenly toasted.
- Cool completely: Remove the snack mix from the oven and allow it to cool completely on the baking tray. This step helps it crisp up further.
- Store or serve: Enjoy the Sweet and Spicy Chex Mix immediately or store it in an airtight container for up to 3 weeks to keep it fresh and crunchy.
Notes
- You can adjust the level of spiciness by varying the amount of cayenne pepper and chili powder.
- Using a combination of different Chex cereals and nuts adds diverse textures and flavors.
- Make sure to cool the mix completely before storing to prevent sogginess.
- If you prefer a less sweet mix, reduce the amount of honey slightly.
- Stirring the mix once or twice during baking helps ensure even toasting, but is optional.
