Description

Sweet and Spicy Chex Mix is a perfectly balanced snack blend combining crunchy Chex cereals, pretzels, nuts, and bagel chips coated in a buttery, honey-infused spicy seasoning. Baked low and slow to crispy perfection, it’s ideal for parties, game days, or anytime you crave a flavorful, homemade snack mix.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Snack Mix

  • 9 cups Chex cereal (a combination of rice, corn, and wheat Chex cereal)
  • 1 cup mini pretzel twists
  • 1 cup mini pretzel rods
  • 1 cup mini bread sticks
  • 2 cups mixed nuts (almonds, whole cashews, and pistachios)
  • 1 cup Rye bagel chips (or plain bagel chips)

Sweet & Spicy Sauce for Seasoning

  • ¾ cup butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 250°F (120°C) to gently toast the snack mix without burning.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, add all three types of Chex cereal, mini pretzel twists, mini pretzel rods, mini bread sticks, bagel chips, and mixed nuts. Mix them evenly.
  3. Prepare the seasoning sauce: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. To the melted butter, add Worcestershire sauce, honey, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, cayenne pepper, and chili powder. Whisk everything together until fully combined.
  4. Coat the snack mix: Pour the sweet and spicy seasoning sauce over the dry snack mixture. Use a spatula to thoroughly coat all ingredients ensuring an even coverage of the sauce.
  5. Spread on baking tray: Transfer the seasoned snack mix onto a large baking tray. Spread the mixture into one even layer to allow for uniform baking.
  6. Bake the mix: Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, stirring once or twice if desired, until the mixture becomes crisp and evenly toasted.
  7. Cool completely: Remove the snack mix from the oven and allow it to cool completely on the baking tray. This step helps it crisp up further.
  8. Store or serve: Enjoy the Sweet and Spicy Chex Mix immediately or store it in an airtight container for up to 3 weeks to keep it fresh and crunchy.

Notes

  • You can adjust the level of spiciness by varying the amount of cayenne pepper and chili powder.
  • Using a combination of different Chex cereals and nuts adds diverse textures and flavors.
  • Make sure to cool the mix completely before storing to prevent sogginess.
  • If you prefer a less sweet mix, reduce the amount of honey slightly.
  • Stirring the mix once or twice during baking helps ensure even toasting, but is optional.
